Napier is home to two historic High Schools: Napier Boys and Napier Girls. Both schools offer boarding facilities, and have proud traditions of sporting and academic excellence.
Napiers Secondary schools are among the oldest schools in New Zealand. Napier Boys High School was opened in 1872. Napier Girls High School later in 1884.
The two schools shared the same site on Bluff Hill until 1926 when Napier Boys moved down to Te Awa. The Boys school is very close to the water front on Marine Parade, but accessed on Chambers Street. Napier Girls has been expanded on the original Bluff Hill site overlooking Napier city and the Hawkes Bay coastline.
