Napier's Sound Shell is an community-owned entertainment venue right by the sea. The Sound Shell is a popular Napier entertainment venue with both private and public events being held there. Located next to the Napier i-Site Visitor Centre, the sound shell is used regularly for concerts and events. The public is able to hire out the venue at very reasonable rates.
Napier holds several Art Deco style events during the year. Events are held at various places around town and if the event includes music there's usually something happnening at the Sound Shell.
The venue consists of a full stage, backstage, and audience area. The venue is outdoors so is great for Summer concerts in the afternoon and evening, like Jazz and Blues, or Christmas concerts. The space for the crowd consists of a concrete area in front of the main stage.
This venue is also great as it has a large grassed area behind this, for larger crowds. You have the beach of one side and tall trees on the other - it's a magic place. The stage was built in 1931 during the rebuilding of the city after the earthquake, so it is another piece of Art Deco, and Napier history.
